The difference between cleaning and organising.

🚨 Help! My house is chaos and is in serious need of some attention. Looking for someone to clean and organise my home. 🤦🏼‍♀️

My reply tends to go along the lines of this blog post.

Cleaning and organising, while related, are two very different activities.

  1. Cleaning: Cleaning involves removing dirt, dust, and other grime from surfaces and objects in your home. It also includes tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, and scrubbing bathrooms.

  2. Organising: Organising involves tidying and arranging your belongings in a systematic and visually appealing way. This includes putting things in their proper place, reducing clutter, and making sure items are easy to find and access.

While cleaning and organising are often done together, the focus of each task is different and therefore someone who excels in one of these tasks may not excel in the other.

Note: a well organised space can appear cleaner than it actually is simply because the countertops are clear.

In any event, if find yourself ready to write a post in a facebook group like the one at the beginning of this article, ask with yourself - can I not put my hand on the bench because there is no space? Or because I'll put it in something slipery/slimey?

If you need help with clearing countertops and floors or scrubbing the shower and toilet - you need a cleaner. If you aren't sure where to put things, because they don't really have a home and there's no system behind where you put things in the event you do put them away - you need an organiser.
